Almost since the invention of the motor we have had some kind of motorbike or motorcycle design around piquing the interest of wood-be enthusiasts’ all over the world. Many factors contribute to this fact but probably the biggest factor is the exhilarating experience of freedom many find hard to resist.

But the popularity of the motorcycle has grown over the years for many reasons. Fuel economy being a big factor in may not be top of the list but does indeed play a big part.

The popularity of motorcycles is seen by just the sheer numbers of motorcycle dealers around the country that are doing big business. And they do so even in the leaner times of the economy. Just take a look at a list of motorcycle manufactures or some of the more well known makers. This is by no means a full list. There are hundreds if not thousands more manufactures that have new models for 2010 that are not on this list.

Motorcycle Popularity Today

Taking a quick look around the world Vietnam’s primary mode of transportation is the motorbike or motorcycle.

Many cultures of the world utilize motorcycles as their primary means of motorized transportation.

The largest markets in the world for motorcycles reside in Asia. The biggest is China and the next markets are India, Indonesia and Vietnam. Other parts of the world where the motorcycle is very popular is Brazil.

Just since the downturn of the world economy of 2008 the growth of the motorcycle industry is up by almost 7%.

In America people registering motorcycles has jumped by over 50% since the start of the new millennium. This is not hard to figure why because the list is endless. Top of the list is fuel costs not to mention the reality TV show (American Chopper) and others all serve to raise the popularity of motorcycles.

Motorcycle Safety

The rise in demand for motorcycles has pushed up the rate of motorcycle fatalities. The Department of Transportation likes to compare the numbers to cars which is not realistic because the numbers of motorcycles on the road is up by 50% or more. But one thing for sure the need for motorcycle safety is indeed way up. Today there are motorcycle safety classes and training courses available. A separate motorcycle driving license is required which requires instruction.

India is becoming a lucrative market for the international companies that are investing highly so that they can tap this market. The latest company which is rolling its sleeve to fight for its place in the market is the victory motorcycle. The US motor bike maker company has announced its intention to hit the India market with its fascinating bikes in 2012. This bike will in no doubt cause a ripple in the already dominated market by the Harley-Davidson motorcycles which command a good share of the market. The victory motorcycles are expected to retail at a price which will range between 499 and 994, although no specific model has been singled out for release yet.

Victory motorbikes have taken the industry into anew whole level after the introduction of the new Victory Freedom which has a twin engine of 1731cc as well as the six-speed transmission in each of its model. This is what can be the best thing for any rider who knows the best bit of riding. There are however models which have hit the market an include Victory Cross Country, Victory Cross Roads, Victory Vision, Hammer S, Kingpin, Vegas Jackpot and four 8-Ball models – Vegas, Hammer, Victory Kingpin Bike in India. These bikes are designed to ensure it meets almost of all the requirement of the market and the consumers of their products have a good value for their money. Some of this value includes a wide range of colour to choose from, highway bar style as well as a windshield in all the bikes.

The latest model has also additional features which include neutral assist on almost all models, which assist the rider to shift into neutral when stopped. This is not all as the bikes have also been installed with a Anti lock braking system which help the rider to provide instance brake. It says in the Book he will come in the clouds. Triumph and Victory do not build clouds.

With the current market trend depicting a retraction in sales in the motorcycle industry, Harley-Davidson has planned a reduction in shipments for the third quarter of 2008. But when confronted with the question of “Will you be doing the same?” Mark Blackwell, VP of Victory Motorcycles and International Operations stated that they have a 10-15% growth goal for the year.

Therefore, in answer to the question above, it can be safely assumed that Victory Motorcycles has no intention of mimicking Harley-Davidson’s idea. Blackwell also stated that in addition to not backing off in their shipments of product, they will also build up their dealer network, rather than expand with a training focus of the existing staff.

Victory’s edge against a retracting market includes the latest addition to their “touring” products — the Victory Vision. This stylishly unique introduction into the touring category of inventory gives the advantage to Victory in the custom cruiser market. And Blackwell has adamantly stated that he feels Victory no has an excellent chance of nearly doubling their sales opportunities with the addition of this beauty to the already high quality line of bikes that exists. The vision is manufactured with a 106 cubic inch 50-degree V-Twin engine and comes well-equipped to attract considerable interest of Victory showroom visitors.

Besides tweaking the numbers a bit, Victory Motorcycles focused on some design revisions especially with their signature bike — the Freedom V100/6. The bike is built with an air/oil-cooled, single overhead cam (SOHC), 50-degree V-Twin motor. The lowering of the compression ratio from 9.8:1 down to 8.7:1 has created a reduction in “spark knock” and boosted horsepower and torque as a result. The new, closed-loop injection system with its fully-sequential operation feeds the larger 45mm throttle body.

The changes made to the oil-cooling operations round out the rest of the upgrades to the Freedom V100/6. Where oil-cooling is concerned, the oil flow path was altered in order to cool the exhaust valve bridge therefore preventing a reduction in the size of the 31mm exhaust valve. As a consequence, there will be no loss of power, and this also enabled the utilization of a smaller oil cooler as well.

Noise pollution and the reduction of it were also key focal points for Victory Motorcycle this past year in that they employed the use of a taller sixth gear in order to reduce the noise that results from the transmission meshing. It also reduced the bike’s cruising RPMs, but only by 3%. Other areas that noise reduction was the targeted goal included a “re-tuned” compensator and split-gear clutch, the addition of more sound-deadening ribbing inside the cover, a quieter alternator, and longer closing ramps combined with slower valve-closing speeds.

This last factor was responsible for eliminating most of the top-end tick that frequently occurred with these particular bikes. Finally, the handlebar grips were redesigned, but in addition to this, heated grips were added as an option in their parts and accessories line.
